Summary

Youngsend is a financial operations concept focused on transparent, reliable and locally relevant money movement. It explores what a payments and reconciliation layer would look like if it were designed for African rails first (M-Pesa, PesaLink, Airtel Money) and global rails second (cards, bank transfers).

The problem

Payments infrastructure built for the global north assumes card networks and bank rails that look the same everywhere. In East Africa, those rails coexist with mobile money, agent networks, and settlement cycles that look nothing like a SEPA transfer. Most off-the-shelf payment stacks treat African rails as an afterthought — a bolt-on integration that breaks under load and produces reconciliation drift at month-end.

Our approach

Youngsend inverts the assumption: African rails are first-class citizens, with first-class reconciliation, settlement tracking and dispute handling. Global rails (cards, bank transfers) plug in as adapters on top of the same primitives. The design is being explored against the regulatory and operational realities of the Kenyan market before any code is shipped.

Where it stands

  • Architecture decision records covering settlement, reconciliation and dispute flows
  • Reference integration designs for M-Pesa Daraja API and PesaLink
  • Idempotency and audit model draft — concept stage, not yet implemented
  • Regulatory and compliance review scoped for Kenyan market entry

Stack

  • TypeScript
  • Go
  • PostgreSQL
  • Event sourcing
  • Idempotency-first APIs
  • Reconciliation engine
